Traveling Zoo Exhibit

We recently visited the Toledo Zoo. It is one of our favorite places to take the kids and we used to go often when we lived in Toledo. When at the zoo you can go look at your favorite animals. You can watch them sleep, walk, eat, even go to the bathroom.

Lately we have been feeling a little sad for our zoo pals. Ever since we added Madeline to the mix we have been feeling like a traveling zoo exhibit. We can't go anywhere without people staring at our family. Occasionally we can actually hear people say "ahh" as we walk past on the sidewalk.

Now, don't get me wrong, I can understand why people would want to stare at our beautiful family. Here in Ann Arbor a family of five is about as exotic as the animals we view at the zoo. The problem is that we are more like our zoo pals than we want to be. A few nights ago, we went out to eat. People stared at us and came over while we are eating to converse with the great looking family in the restaurant. It was odd to know that a lot of people were watching as we stuffed our faces and made sure the kids were behaving. I guess we just never get a moment when we are out in public where we are not on display. Because David and Madeline are both in diapers, people can even watch some of us use the bathroom just like the animals at the zoo! So if you would like to view the Mower traveling zoo exhibit come see us when we are out and about the town!

I know how you feel. We get tons of stares and comments wherever we go too. Oh well - I guess it is a blessing of having a "beautiful" family. And your family is certainly beautiful.

That is so funny! We have stopped going out to eat because Xander is just a mess. Not only food everywhere. But he is everywhere. The boy can't just sit still and enjoy the company. He has to be go go, go, going! I can't imagine what it will be like to go out with 3 kids. I am sure you do a great job and yes your family is beautiful!!

My comment deleted somehow. I'm holding Samara and her arms are flailing!

I totally understand what you mean!!! Our family is definitely not as beautiful as yours, but people stare at us pretty consistently too, especially when we have things going on at Hy's school or on campus. So I guess my fam is a freak show instead of a traveling zoo.

Don't I know about people staring. It is common in Utah for people to have a lot of kids but when the kids were smaller (Chandler 8, Parker 5, twins 3 and Isabelle 1)we still got plenty of looks. Consider it a compliment. Your family is so cute!!!

When I would travel with my parents and siblings, we would have people bobbing their heads as they counted "all" of us. It was humiliating as a teenager. I love getting positive comments on my children, and it's always nice to hear that you have a beautiful family, but man, sometimes you just want to be background instead of the main attraction.

This really made me laugh. Let them stare!! Your family is so cute, but I know what you mean. We only have Blake, but there are days I do wonder what people think of us.

tee, hee, i can feel for you sister--i would stare too because you have such darling little ones--and your little lady is so cute! i hadn't seen her yet, and she's a beaut! i like to dress my four girls the same (disgustingly cheesy, i know), and people just die when we are all out walking together... :)
