So I just finished two quilts that I have been working on for awhile and I am not sure what I think about quilting. I love finishing the project and having completed something big, however, while I am working on it I don't love it. My theory is that I am not good at being patient and exact both of which I think are skills needed in quilting. It is hard to get seams lined up just right and sew forever without feeling like you are getting anywhere. The problem is now that I am done I have a small desire to start another quilt but I am not sure if that is a good idea.
This is a Michigan quilt that nine people in my ward made together. Each person made nine of one type of square and then we swapped. Each square represents a memory of our time in Michigan. It will be fun to have and remember the people that contributed to the quilt. Thanks to my mom for helping me finish the binding (Ok she pretty much did the binding, aren't moms great!)
What is your opinion about quilting?

I love that you are so good at that. I envy your talent. Start another one, who knows when you will finish it, but you'll have something to work on if you ever get bored :)!!
I love to quilt, but have never done a huge project. I meant to tell you the quilt you put out at the talent show was amazing!! Way to go. We hope to get another round going with the Michigan quilts. This one looks amazing.
first of all, that quilt is amazing. then again, i guess i shouldn't be surprised because you always were good at stuff like that. remember how you basically made my projects in sewing class? haha. i still have never finished that quilt that we made all the squares for and then you put the top together. my MIL is a bigtime quilter so i'm trying to get her to do it... not really working.
anyway, quilt, quilt, you're so good!
Michelle, It's fun to find your blog (found you through Liz) and to see your finished quilt! It's gorgeous. I want to see the second one you just finished. :) I have really enjoyed doing some simpler projects lately--maybe that's all you need. Then again, you have baby #3, so maybe you just need a break! Congrats, by the way, she's beautiful.
Michelle, if you know me at all, you know may take on quilting. I admire anyone that does it and look at the final product-you can't buy that anywhere. That being said, there ARE a lot of cute quilts in the stores (my version of quilting). Congrats on finishing it, it looks great!!!
I have a similiar dilemma. I decided to make Mia a dress and it turned out so cute but I really hate the actual sewing. I have one I started last June but never finished, I'm sure it won't fit her now. Maybe this summer I'll finish it and send it to Madeline. At least you can't really grow out of a quilt.
Wow! I'm exhausted just looking at it. What a treasure to have. It is so awesome. I'd like an explanation about each block. Way to go.
Oh, it's so cute! Before I leave Michigan, I MUST make one of those quilts! But I don't know how to quilt. Is that going to be a problem? :)
